Chamber of Commerce Michaelene Pendleton, Chairman of the Most Scenic Dump Committee, is pleased to announce that Mr. Ed Mayo, President of Kenne-buncPort, Maine, Dump Association has performed the judging for the Sister City Most Scenic Dump. According to Jim Corwin, President of the Moab Chamber of Commerce, an awards dinner will be held at Pack Creek Ranch on March 15, 1987, for the winner of the Sister City Most Scenic Dump and parade winners. A sign explaining Moabs Most Scenic Dump status is being designed, constructed and donated by Darren Fitzgerald. In an effort to allow the citizens of Moab to participate more actively in the Scenic Dump Contest and Beautification, the committee has proposed to make available brightly colored ribbons to be displayed from automobile antennas andor their trash can lids, during Spring Cleanup Week designated for March 4th through March 15th. The ribbons will be distrubuted in parking lots throughout downtown Moab. Anyone who is missed in the distrubu-tio- n and wishes a ribbon may contact the Chamber of Commerce office or Arches Realty. The Chamber is pleased with the tremendous enthusiasm the citizens of Moab have expressed in the Clean-u- p and Beautification of our community. This continuing effort will go a long way toward furthering the enhancement of our community. In celebration of this effort, the Scenic Dump-Cleanu-p Parade will be held March 14, 1987 at 10 a.m. There will be two kinds of entries: 1) Humerous floats and entries depicting the fun side of the Scenic p Campaign and 2) Citizens with their trash load resultThe ing from their spring clean-uparade will begin at Millers Shopping Center and travel along Main Street to the City Park. All trash load entries will cut off from the Parade at main and 1st North and travel to the Most Scenic Dump where they will make their deposit of debris. The Best of Parade entry will win $50.00 cash. The largest trash load and the funniest entry will each win a Scenic Dump All interested organizations or individuals should contact Parade Chairman, Dina Dar bonne McCandor the Chamber of less at Commerce office at Individuals wanting to purchase or hats for participaion in the clean-u- p can do so from Design. The Dump committee is making these available so residents can send them to their friends and relatives in other communities. The shirts and caps will make great gifts, as well as being good advertising for the Moab area. Tom Kuehne, Department of Social Services, is organizing the Emergency Work Program (EWP) participants to take part in cleaning the approach to the dump, from the Cemetery to the dump boundaries. EWP people will be under the supervision of Grand County Roads and Maintenance personnel for the k and Mrs. Tom Johnson, Sr., are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter, Dina, to Mr. Donald Alan McCandless, S' R'chard McCandless and Barbara McCandless, both of f?n Moab. Don and Dina were married Jan. 31, 1987, in the Moab Stake Center. The couple will make their home in Moab. I j 11, . . . next few days. The public is also being asked to participate, by way of individuals and organizations, in beautifying the amphitheater surrounding the dump. Vehicles providing transportaion to the dump can be identified by signs on the vehicles, designating which organizations are participating. Certificates of Appreciation will be awarded to those organizations who have participated. A member of the Scenic Dump Dommittee will be available to list the vehicles as they enter the dump area. Major cleanup will take place Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to noon. Any and all organizations are asked to participate, i.e., church groups, civic organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Red Rock groups, etc. It is recomended that people involved bring their own thash containers, to prevent the wind blowing debris. There is a huge area that has been neglected for a long time. We need to beautify this area for our own civic pride, as well as tourist appreciation. Proper supervision of youth should be provided by each group or individual at the dump site. This is only the beginning... of the intense effort for the big Spring 4-- H Clean-u- p. a1 Alpha Rho chapter of E.S.A. sorority met Thursday evening, February 26 at the home of Tina Holland with Rhea Gramlich and Norma Swenson as The evening was spent visiting and exchanging recipes. Alpha Rho began the new year with their January business meeting at the home of Lois Jamison with Betty Dravage and Ernie King assiting as Rosmary Yama added to the chapters educational theme with here "Journey Through Life, and with pictures from her native homeland, Switzerland. Secret Sister names were drawn by the membership for the year 1987. Vanita Hunt, president of Alpha Rho, was hostess for the January social meeting on January 22, with Colleen Taylor and Yvonne Hawks. The Chamber of Commerces Citizens of the Year, Jean Hunter and Nadine Stephens spoke to the sorority concerning the Youth Center and its needs. The of the Youth Center stressed the ongoing need for volunteers and equipment. Four members from Alpha Rho attended the Utah State Council meeting in Salt Lake City on January 31. Rosmary Yama, Tina Holland, Vanita Hunt from Moab, and Marie Panos from Price, Utah were those attending from Alpha Rho. They won the Travel Award and donated the monies to the Bulimia Eating Disorder Clinic. The mother of a teenage girl who died from this disorder spoke to the sorority concerning her daughter, the disorder, and her daughters death. The director of the clinic also spoke to the group af the growing numbers of young gMa afflicted by this eating disorder. 7 A Valentine motif set the scene for Februarys business meeting held in the home of Yvonne Hawks on February 12. Wanda Hopkins and Billie Terry were the cohostesses assisting her. The was delighted to have Bobbie Long with them for the evening after her recuperation from surgery. Marie Panos, a member from Price, Uah was also present at the meeting. The group voted to donate to the Buckle Up seat belt contest being held at the high school. The evenings program continued with the educational theme for the year and Wanda Hopkins sharing her Journey Through Life with her sorority sisters. She brought with her many interesting pictures from her journey.
