Show REGISTER TODAY Law On the SubjectAttrey Will Decide Today is another registration day and those who have nG attended to the duty of registration should do so Every voter should see to i that his or her name Is on the registration books j 1 t In case bf removal from one district into another a transfer should be obtained ob-tained from the registration agent oC the district from which the voter has removed and presented to the agent of the one in which the resident has removed re-moved The qualifications of a voter a defined by the law are that he or she must have lived one year In the state 60 days in the county and 30 days in the precinct Some of the registration agents yesterday yes-terday refused to register parties who ha moved from one municipal ward into another and others refused to give certificates to pates moving front their wards into another Generally the agents held that they were not required re-quired to issue certificates to parties who were removing from one ward to another claming that transfers wee sImply for the benefit of those who were moving inside the limits of the wad and that outside those limits aU which was required was a new registration regs tration The agents refusing registration ton under these circumstances dear that there would be a double registration ton under thee circumstances The county attorney will be asked for an opinion this morning The law on the mater of transfers says Any regls I tered voter moving from one district to atther within the same precinct prior to the day of the ensuing election may apply to the registry agent before whom he has already registered for that yea at any time prior to the day of election and have his name taken off the official register and receive from the registry agent a certificate C showing substantially that he was on a certain day duly registered in the official register and that his name has been erased at his own request which certificate will entitle him to have his name registered in the same manner as other names are registered regis-tered in any other district within the same precinct for sad electidn etc etc The law being silent on removals from precinct to precinct i would seem that new registration is required and that the agent is compelled to permit an applicant to register if he or she complies takes the with proper aU oath the regulations and |
