Show TEMPLAFISINPARADE Twenty Thousand Knights In Gorgeous Gor-geous Array at Pittsburg A SCENE OF SPLENDOR J NEARLY A MILLION PEOPLS WITNESSED TKE SPECTACLE 3 Rain Storm Failed to Mar the Sue cess of the ParadeKnights Greeted With Perfect Tornadoes of CheersReport of the Grand Recorder Showing a Net Gain Pittsburg Pa Oct 11The parade of the twentyseventh triennial conclave of the Knights Templar is nv an event of history Whatever had been anticipated antici-pated in the way of gorgeousness splendor and general allaround success vas realized It was the grandest parade pa-rade ever held In this city In point of numbersthere were 20000 marchers in lineit easily doubled similar occurrences occur-rences of the past and as far as the appearance of the men their uTlitorms the trappings of their horses as well as time perfection of their movements were concerned Pittsburg has never seen anything to equal it The day started with not a cloud in the sky a soft gentle breeze blowing and long before the booming cannon announced the start of the marchers there was a multitude of people packed together in an impenetrable throng along the line of march The number of onlookers on the streets in the windows win-dows on roofs and in the reviewing stands has been variously estimated at from 500000 to 1000000 people At 10 oclock the wonderful cavalcade had completed its formation and the march began and three hours later the last detachment passed time same point The rain commenced at 130 oclock and for awhile it looked as though the parade might be broken up but the knights walked along with the same spirit and displayed the same martial dignified bearing in the rain as they sJ had done under the sunshine The crowd soon began to reorganize and the volleys of cheers and applause that had been thunderous before now burst forth in perfect tornadoes Such en couragernent could not but have its ef feet and the result was the line remained re-mained unbroken until the end came The arrangements were perfect Streets were roped lit and guards corn posed ofthe members of the Eighteenth regiment N G P and of battery B who have recently been mustered out were stationed all along the line Hospital Hos-pital corps had been organize4 and accompanied ac-companied the parade in varioLs P1UCS but fortunately their services were not in great demand The splendid uniforms of the Call fornia commanderies their golden swords and their chargers attracted a great deal of attention all along the line Time parade disbanded at Shenter park anti immediately after the grand commantlery met in Conference hail for the first actual business of the con dave After addresses of welcome by Chairman Chair-man Arthur B Wigley Mayor H P Ford of Pittsburg and State Grand Commander Kuhn the grand encamp meat was declared open and GrandMaster Grand-Master Warren Lame Thomas dcliv ered the annual address after which the reports of Grand Treasurer Lines and Grand Recorder Mills were presented pre-sented The report of the grand recorder con tamed much statistical information The gains since the last conclave have been Knights 699 affiliated 973 reInstated re-Instated 406 total 8374 The losses have been Died 165S admitted 1789 K suspended unknightly conduct 4 suspended for nonpayment of dues 2060 expelled 67 total 5638 The net gain was 2736 The social feature of the conclave took flace tonight at the Duquesac garden This was the reception exclu siveiy for members of the different Knight Templar commanderles and no laymen or anyone except ladies without with-out a Templar uniform was admitted The guest of honor was Grand Master of the Grand Encampment Warren La rue Thomas After the reception there was a grand bali and the gathering did not break up until after midnight Duquesne garden is an immense building and it Is estimated that more than 8000 knights with their ladies attended the reception |
