Show ST. TVTATIY'S ACAEEJIY. French. Operatta Presented By the Students. A charming entertainment was that given by the French students at St. Mary's Academy last evening. Had a stranger from La Belle France strayed in upon the scene, he would have imagined im-agined that white in a dream he had been transoorted to his native country and was hearing aain, in song and speech, the tongue that he loved so well. The study room of the Academy ha.'I beeen transformed into a little theatre, the ptage beautified by pa'ms, potted plants and great bunches of callas. and some 300 guests were present to enjoy theoperetta and applaud their young friends who did so well. The story of the play was that aom school girls, out for fun and frolic, decide to give an entertainment, en-tertainment, and. as school girls will, immediately put their ideas into execution. execu-tion. The programme is introduced with a dance round the Maypole, very gracefully grace-fully done by the Mioses Clark, Daly, Santchi. McDoncugh. Phillips, Robi-son. Robi-son. Sullivan, R. MeDonough. Reisen-berg. Reisen-berg. E. Diily and E. McMillan. Thv was followed by several pretty little scenes, bright with solos and I choruses, "Cavatine." by Miss A. Du Chene; "Chanson a Boire." by Miss Gridley. and "Priere," by Miss L. Eh-ret. Eh-ret. being all very well" rendered indeed. in-deed. ; Then came the charming little operetta. oper-etta. "Le Miracle des Roses." the part of Elizabeth, the good queen, being taken by Mis A. O'Brien. The unkind king was well represented by Miss M. Kinney. In the first scene of the operetta. oper-etta. Miss Gridley received a perfect storm of applause for her splendid rendition ren-dition of the solo, "Le Premier Devoir." De-voir." The other characters in the operetta op-eretta were: Lady Alice. Miss Du Chene; Les Suivantes, Mifnes? Daly and uridiey; Le Page, Edna Clark; Madame la Superieure, Miss Paumie; Mignon, Miss Pollock; Grazirlla, Miss McDaniels; La Laitiere, Miss Edwards. Miss Ehret and Miss Santchi each sang very pretty solos, and the Misses Ehret and Du Chene rendered a duet very pleasingly. The minuet, one of the most beautiful beauti-ful of dances, was given zy the Misses O'Brien. Ehret, Du Chene. Kanning, McDaniels. Kinney, Pollock, Gridley. Daiy. Clark and Robinson, and was a fitting finale to a very enjoyable evening. even-ing. Miss Dora Kinney was the accompanist accom-panist of the evening. At the close of the entertainment many of those who enjoyed the entertainment remained to congratulate the young girls and the Sisters upon the very successful affair. |
