Show I I BUTTE. J Of3ce of The Intermountain and ' Colorado Catholic, 47 East Broadway. ! Butte, Mont. T. Campion, General , Agent. i EASTER SERVICE3 AT ST. PAT-niCX'S. PAT-niCX'S. The Easter ceremonies at St. Patrick's Pat-rick's church were carried out with all the brilliancy and pomp of the Catholic Catho-lic servire I The early masses were attended by i large congregations and it was a beau-! beau-! tiful manifestation of Cathoiic piety and fervor to witness the large num-j num-j bem that approached holy communion. I At 11 o'clock the sacred edifice was crowded to the doors: a great many I being unable to gain admittance. The altars and sanctuary were in : keeping with the grand solemnity. ; The high altar was beautifully and ; respiendently decorated with a profusion profu-sion of cut flowers, an abundance of , evergreens artistically arranged, all ; lighted up with innumerable tapers, presenting a picture of gorgeousnras and splendor. The side altars were also ablaze with lights and bright with tasty floral decorations. Within the sanctuary rails were seated seat-ed forty acolytes dressed in white surplices. sur-plices. The services commenced with a grand solemn high mass, Rev. Father Callahan Calla-han being celebrant. Father English, deacon; Father Harrington, sub-deacon, and Father Blaere, master of ceremonies. cere-monies. After the first gospel, the distinguished distin-guished French missionary, Very Rev. Pothoi. -RToodn OCAnmlnrl tUr. . , , 1 i ,1 ' delivered a most impressive sermon on I the "Resurrection." One of the most pleasing and notable faatures of the services was the music and singing of the choir, which was exceptionally ex-ceptionally fine and very much appreciated appre-ciated by the large congregation present. pres-ent. The rendition of Hayden's First Mass showed very careful training on the part of the accomplished directress, Mrs. Belle Rooney, who spared neither time or labor to furnish good singing for the occasion and in the opinion of many it has never been equalled at any former time. The programme of music was as follows: fol-lows: Processional "March of the Priests by Mozart," organ and orchestra. Kyrle, from Hayden's First Mass. Gloria, Credo. Sanctus, Agnus Del, Hayden's Second Mass. Offertorj'i Hac Dies, Werner. Hallelujah chorus, Handel. Recessional, March Pontificate, organ and orchestra. The "Qui Tolis," as sung by Mr. Kirkham, was beautifully rendered, the notes of his rich clear tenor voice filling fill-ing the entire church. Mr. Kirkham has only lately arrived in Butte, and is a valuable acquisition to St. Patrick's choir. The solos sung by Mrs. Ignatius Donnelly were exquisitely exquis-itely rendered and very much appreciated. appre-ciated. During the Offertory the string orchestra favored the congregation with selections from Bache. j No less strikingly impressive were the services held in the evening, which consisted of solemn vespers, benedlc-I benedlc-I tion and masterly sermon on the "Res-j "Res-j urrection," by Rev. Father Gueymard of Salt Lake. The choir faultlessly rendered Rose-i Rose-i wig's Vespers complete. The splendid singing of Mr. Kirkham was again shown in the admirable manner with which he rendered the "O Salutarls." The "Tantum Ergo" by the same gentleman, accompanied by Mrs. Roo-,-ney, was really superbly done, j At the evening service, a quartette, I consisting of Miss Hamann,.Mr. Berg- strom, Mrs. Hamann and Mrs. Thomas, favored the congregation with selections selec-tions on stringed instruments. It must be a source of great pleasure pleas-ure and gratification to the Catholics of Butte to have such an efficient and highly trained choir. Too much praise cannot be given to the able directress and leader Mrs. Belle Rooney, whose perseverance and untiringenergy have brought it to Its present high standard of efficiency and excellence. Sopranos Mrs. Ignatius Donnely, Miss Rose Movris, Miss Mary Walker, Misa Mary Kepler, Miss Ida Ross, Miss Annie Kingsbury. Mrs. McMillan. Altos Miss Veronau, Miss Annie Kepler. Tenor Mr. Kirkham. Bass Mr. Kerns, Mr. Rodgers. The choir will be assisted by Miss Hammon's orchestra of eight pieces. Organist and Directress Mrs. Belle Rooney. |
