Show Viking Athletics Region Foes to Change Again by Kent Allen Well, I have heard that a change is just as good as a vacation. I don't know if I really believe that, but I do like the ability to make adjustments when necessary and adjusting they (UHSAA) are. The new region changes will take effect in the Fall of . 201 1 thru 2013 and that is also a change. Instead of reviewing attendance ratios every four years, they are now doing it every two years. The new Region 4 group is suggested to be American Fork, Bingham, Lehi, Lone Peak, Pleasant Grove and Riverton. The UHSAA Board of Trustees came up with these new groupings and had them published on November 10 of this year. A hearing on the placement of schools into regions will be held on November 17, and the final approval will be scheduled for November 18. This can be an advantage because of how often people move around. But if you are a coach trying to build something to hang a reputation on. you may have to hope for the luck of the draw and previous success to attract new talent into your program. Our current region members include Aha. Brighton, Hillcrest, Jordan, American Fork, Lone Peak and Pleasant Grove. Under the newly suggested grouping, we would lose the Salt Lake schools and add Bingham, Riverton and an old foe, Lehi. In 5A, Alta is the biggest school with an attendance of 2,553. In the proposed new Region 4, Bingham will be the biggest school and 2 in the state with an attendance of 2293. Lone Peak is 6 in the state with 2.136 students, Riverton 7 with 1 ,944 students, American Fork at 8 with 1 .940 students Pleasant Gros e with 9 with 1 .875 students and Lehi at 23 with 1.638 students. It will be interesting during the next ten years to see what new schools PG will be playing and even more interesting to see how the Vikings will respond. |
