J t; - - . by Danica Baird This year.Pleasant Grove High School's volleyball team stunned everybody by earning second place at the State Tournament. Senior Kim Dahl helped lead her team to victory in dramatic fashion. Next year, Dahl will play volleyball for the BYU Cougars. For Kim, her volleyball career started in the third grade when she attended a volleyball camp and discovered she loved the sport. Kim said, "Volleyball just feels so natural to me. I love volleyball." During Kim's junior year, BYU offered her a full-ride scholarship to play outside hitter on their volleyball team. Dahl said, "It was always my dream to play volleyball for BYU. My mom would take me to their games and so it's just weird to think I'm going to actually play for BYU." Fellow teammate McKell Siaheli said, "Kim's one of the best players I've ever seen and she's also a team player. Kim is a leader on and off the court." Kim is a strong athlete and dominates the court, and is also a strong leader. This past season Kim served as captain and helped lead the team to victory. Kim said, "I hoped that as captain, I could make my team believe that we could get as far as last year in the State tournament." For Kim, the highlight of her high school career was beating the very strong Bingham at the State Tournament. After losing multiple seniors who helped them claim first place at the State tournament last year, nobody expected the Lady Vikings to make it past the first round in the State Tournament. Proving everybody wrong and knocking Bingham out of the running was the most meaningful moment for Kim. Kim said, "Beating Bingham was such a huge accomplishment. Nobody thought we could get to the final game again. But we did." On Thursday November ll, 2010, Kim was able to achieve her childhood dream and officially commit to BYU and formally accept her full-ride scholarship. Kim said, "Officially signing that paper and having that big step behind Senior Kim Dahl helped lead her team to victory in dramatic fashion. At BYU Dahl plans on gaining the education necessary to become a teacher and training to become a volleyball coach. Kim said, "I want to be able to influence teens to dream big and be passionate about something and get where they want to go." Dahl was a strong athlete and a fierce competitor on the court and a great leader for her team. . She has been an exemplary student-athlete for her high school and has represented our community in an extraordinary manner. Kim will take this dedication and commitment to the next level as she showcases her talent in front of thousands of BYU fans. |
