Bf y by Danica Baird Pleasant Grove High School's Operation Smile Club is renown in the community for raising funds to help perform cleft lip and palate surgeries. In underdeveloped countries, children born with these deformities are shunned and their chance to succeed in life is extremely limited. Operation Smile seeks to change the world one smile at a time, one child at a time. These surgeries cost about two hundred and fifty dollars. Operation Smile has several doctors to perform these surgeries. However, without generous donations, they will not be able to perform these operations. Their traditional 'Miles of Smiles' fundraiser raised enough money for only four operations. Students and faculty donated a dollar and wrote their name on a smile that was hung up throughout the school. Every Halloween, members of Operation Smile go trick-or-treati-to raise funds to perform these surgeries. This year thirty club members participated in this event and raised two thousand and five hundred dollars. After this trick-or-treati-event, Operation Smile has enough money for fourteen operations. They can change the lives of fourteen children and hope to raise money for at least two more operations. Club. Secretary Cassandra Belliston said, "Operation Smile means a great deal to me. To see a child's smile is like seeing a piece of sunshine." Operation Smile Club is renown in the community for raising funds to help perform cleft lip and palate surgeries in underdeveloped countries. Operation Smile is a beacon of hope to several children in underdeveloped countries. Anyone who would like to donate to Operation Smile should contact Club Advisor David van Dijk at vandd779 alpine. k!2.ut. us. No matter how small the donation, it will make a difference in a child's life.
