The easiest way to save gas is to keep a check on the number of miles you get from a gallon of gasoline and the amount of gasoline you use. To Conserve natural resources for a better tomorrow determine your miles per gallon, locate the number of gallons used (at top) and follow down the column to the number of miles traveled (at left). Multiply the number of gallons you use times the price you pay per gallon of gasoline; this will indicate gasoline you're consuming. Here's an example: A length of heater hose in a European car measures 4'. feet long but this hose is sold by the meter. Changing the 'L. fraction to the decimal fraction of .5. we have a length of 4.5 feet In Table I. the conversion factor for feet to meters is 0.3048. Multiply 4.5 bv the 0.3048 factor. The result is l.:V7160. or rounded off it's 1.4 meters. If the hose were sold by the centimeter, the conversion factor for feet to centimeters is 30.48. Again multiply 4 5 by "this 30.48 factor. The result is 137.16 - or nearly 140 centimeters. With 100 centimeters equaling meter, then 140 centimeters equals 1.4 meters which is the same length. This example illustrates the use ol conversion factors is easy. The trick with the metric svstem is placing the decimal in the -- 1 correct place! In the past, most of us have used a decimal from a fraction-equivalent chart when ,. to a decimal equivalent of 0.250.
