Show Cats, Injuns Set for Fight By Charlie Zito Sports Writer When BYU heads for Salt Lake City Saturday afternoon the Cougars will be headed into the biggest ambush since Custer at Little Big Horn. BYU comes off a very impressive impres-sive victory over the Texas Western West-ern Miners, 53-33. Quarterback Virgil Carter had a tremendous day against the not-so-tough secondary sec-ondary of the Miners by connecting connect-ing with 32 of 51 passes. Carter snapped a NCAA record by gaining gain-ing 514 yards on the ground, a record held by Billy Stevens of Texas Western. Utes Played Classy The Utes meanwhile were putting put-ting on a pretty classy show of their own as they dumped the Arizona State Sun Devils in Tem-pe Tem-pe by 21-6. The Utes were in complete control of the game all the way as they ran their record to 3-1 in WAC play and 5-1 overall. over-all. The Sun Devils also played BYU earlier and came up with a win over the supposedly tough Cougars by the score of 10-7. One could probably compare the scores to the two teams by their performances with the Devils. But when the Utes and the Cougars meet head-on this Saturday you can bet it will probably be a real dog fight with the dogs coming out on the short end. Supreme Effort Needed If the Utes are to win, it will take a supreme effort from the team but it will also take a supreme su-preme effort from the students. So when Utah plays the Cougars this Saturday everyone will know that we tried our hardest. The Utes have been underdogs in just about all of their games but these guys have played when the chips were down all season and when Saturday comes they will also be playing with the chips down. |
