Joins Boy Scout Roll Of Sustaining Members An additional name has been included on the honor roll of sustaining members during the recent Boy Scout finance campaign, it was learned this week when it was discovered that A1 Hunsaker of the Hunsaker Sand and Gravel company had not been included in the orginal list as published. Hunsakers contribution, turned in through Homer Dunn, was listed with the pledges obtained by the Junior Chamber of Commerce instead of on the sustaining member roll. All business firms and individuals who contribute $25 or more annually are listed as sustaining members. pending on several factors, , according to A. Fullmer Allred, Box Elder county agricultural agent. Dr. Paul Christensen, extension conservationist at . Utah State University, says numerous fertilizer tests v conducted by USU have shown that the need for fertilizer on grain depends on the previous crop grown, the amount of manure or commercial fertilizer applied, recently, and the amount and management of irrigation water applied. Tests indicate that if a farmer raises grain in rotation follow-in- f alfalfa or other crops where he has applied large amounts of manure or fertilizer he will probably not obtain an increase yield from commercial fertilizers. Also, no Increase In yield usually can be expected from commercial fertilizer if the farmer haa not managed his Irrigation water properly or if he has a short Dr. supply of water, Christensen points out. On the other hand, if he has not used barnyard manure in recent years and has not been growing grain in rotation he probably will get an increase In grain yields by applying some form of nitrogen fertilizer. Use of nitrogen fertilizer or manure on grains will really pay off if a fanner will pay attention to two important factors, Dr. Christensen First says. grow' a recommended grain variety. Second, keep the soil in the root zone of the plant moist throughout the growing season." Trapped Skunks Get An Escape Ladder Durable Bulb Ends Snatching NEW YORK (UP) The American habit of may be on its way out. The bulb, which comes in various wattages, is the same as standard bulbs in size and to the shape, but, according manufacturer it is made of heavier glass and more durable internal power components. g CHICAGO (UP) Harried police in suburban .Park Forest found a solution to the problem of how to retrieve skunks that fall iifto window wells and cant get out. (UP) of California scientists have achieved the purification and crystalization of all three major known strains of poliomyelitis virus. The report was made by Dr. Carleton E. Schwerdt and his Dr. Frederick L. Schaffer, of the schools virus laboratory. They reported the crystallization and purification of one in the fall polio strain MEF-Uni-versit- BERKELEY, 1 YMoesday, Brigham City, Utah 1955, the first time any huof man or animal Infecting virus had been crystalized. Now they have since purified the Mahoney and Saukett strains. The three strains are those used in the Salk vaccine. One of the most important reasons fey obtaining pure vF ruses is to.be certain that research results can be attributed to known virus particles and not some contaminant.
