Campaign of candidates for nomination on the Democratic tickets were brought to a close last nltht and preparations made by the candidates to enter battle with the opening of the Democratic state convention tomorrow morning: In the Orphcum theatre in Salt Lake. ROBERTS WITHDR 1WS The mist important announcement within the party ranks yesterday was the withdrawal of Brlghain H. Roberts Rob-erts of Baft Lake as candidate for rov-ernor. rov-ernor. Mr Robert's Statement follows. fol-lows. "I address this announcement to in; friends throughout thi state of I 'ah Political developments of the last few days have conlnccd me of the unwisdom of persisting in my candidacy candi-dacy for the governorship of L'tah W hile I cannot but feel that there is. an element ol injustice to me personally per-sonally ihthe created necessity, as 1 lew it. of my withdrawal from the race which I was not only encouraged but urged to make by many friend from all parts of the state, still 1 can not allow thai sense of personal injustice in-justice to Weigh against what I consider con-sider the welfare and chances for success suc-cess of the Democratic party in Utah. "That I could by continued effort win the nomination in the forthcoming forthcom-ing Democratic convention. 1 have not a doubt; but after the nomination, the likelihood of our party being assailed by the cry or the whisper that the in-terest in-terest ot the dominant Church In l'tah would require the defeat of the candidate can-didate for governor on the Democratic ticket, would inject into the campaign an element that I am and always have been most anxious to keep out of our Utah politics. I can do that now by taking th step which will remove ull oer-aslon tor it in the present campaign, cam-paign, namely, by withdrawing my candidacy which I bere and now do. To my mind the greatest politic il Issue that has ever arisen in our nation na-tion is before the people In the present eiettions the entrance of the United Stales into the League of Nations an absolute necessity In order to-vitalize that League to give to it the one last factor absolutely necessary to Irs assured as-sured success.
