Show SPRINGVILLE TO OPEN NEW STREETSOUTH Citizens Petition Council for Extension of First East Street. A petition with 23G signers was presented by George L. Hyde to the Springville city council in regular session last Monday evening, February Feb-ruary 4. The petition asks that the council open up a street that would extend First East street south until it meets the street running east from the Jefferson school. This same matter was presented to the city council last fall but due to the fact that one or two of the property owners over whose land the street would pass held for what was considered to be an exorbitant price for their ground and also that 1 the council at that time had only a few days left before their term of office would expire there was no action taken. The council immediately upon receiving re-ceiving the petition and listening to the verbal comments of some of the petitioners referred the matter to the committee on streets and sidewalks side-walks with the instruction- to . be prepared to make recommendations at the next regular meeting. Representatives of the Bell Telephone Tele-phone company were present and asked that the privilege be granted their company to move the telephone pole line from Fourth Norti to the Jefferson school one block further east. This would take the pole line off from Main street and put it on First East street The matter was referred to a joint committee consisting con-sisting of the committees on streets and sidewalks, electric lights, city engineer and city attorney. The dog tax for this year was increased to $3.00. An ordinance to this effect was passed by a unan- imous vote of the council. An ordi-I ordi-I nance changing the time of the regular meetings from the first and third Mondays of the month to the first and third Tuesdays of the month was also passed by unanimous unani-mous vote. Upon the recommendation of Councilman Harmer, Blain Kelsey was appointed water commissioner for the year 1024, and his salary was fixed at $125 per month for eight months. Dr.. George A. Anderson was appointed ap-pointed to fill the office of city physician. It was stated that there was suffi-cent suffi-cent money in the sinking fund to redeem the remaining outstanding city electric light bonds, and upon a motion the council voted that the bonds be redeemed. Crawford Craw-ford grocery, Snelson Drug company and Sumsion & Smart feed and produce. pro-duce. The salary of L. E.
