Show TRANSIENTS LEAVE BOND .Young Men Who Gave Girls Intoxicants May Face Serious Charge. Through the united efforts of Sheriff J. D. Boyd and Marshal Henry Clark of Springville, two young men, giving the names of Ira Hupp and V. K. Comia, who are traveling through the state posting up signs for the Chevrolet Auto company, were arrested Saturday Sat-urday night in Spanish Fork and brought to the county jail in Provo by Deputy Sheriff B. F. Roper, on an alleged charge of having possession posses-sion of intoxicating lienors. The two men sighed confessions Sunday in the office of Sheriff Boyd iu the presence of the sheriff, sher-iff, Marshal Clark nnd a Provo woman. They also deposited a cash bond of $100 each, but failed to appear before Judge James B. Tucker to answer to the alleged cbarije Monday morning. According to the story told by Mtirshal Clark, Hupp and Comia brought two Provo girls to a dance in the Springville opera house Wednesday evening. Durin the dance one of the girls was found in an almost unconscious condition in the ladies' dressing room. Marshal Clark, who was called, discovered that the girl's condition was due to an excessive drinking of intoxicating intoxi-cating liquors. He carried the girl from the dance to the city ball in Springville where she remained until she had become sober. After learning from the other cdrl that the two men had been giving the girls intoxicants to drink on their way from Provo to Springville, Spring-ville, Marshal Clark made an effort ef-fort to locate the men but they had already left in their automobile. Watch was kept for them during the week nnd Sunday morning about 4 o'clock the men were arrested in , Spanish Fork and brought here. It wag learned by Sheriff Boyd and Marshal Clark Sunday when they examined the girls that the two men had been in company with them again in Provo Saturday evening. At first the girls denied having had liquor to drink but wlieu confronted with the evidence broke down and in the presence of the mother and the officers told the story of Wednesday evening nnd also told of being with the two uien Saturday night. When examined by the officers Hupp and Comia denied ever hnv-ntg hnv-ntg had possession of lienor or of having given anv strong drinks to the girls, but when told hv the mother that the girls had told everything, they confessed, told their story nnd signed a confession. Whether or not a more serious charge than that of having possession posses-sion of intoxicating liquors will be sworn against the young men has ant been definitely decided upon by the officers. |
