Show JUDGE AGREES TO GRANT WRIT IN THE THAW CASE May Defeat Attempt of Thaw's Lawyers Law-yers to Keeep Their Client in Canada Indefinitely. Sherbrooke, Quebec. It was reported re-ported in Sherbrooke Friday that Superior Su-perior Judge Hutchinson, returning from his vacation, has agreed to grant to Canadian lawyers acting for New York state a writ of habeas corpus, calling for the production of Harry K. Thaw in court at once. This move, if carried out, might defeat de-feat Thaw's lawyers in their attempt to keep him in jail indefinitely. William Wil-liam Travers Jerome, who represents New York state here in the Thaw case, refused to affirm' or deny the report. re-port. Judge Hutchinson is a brother judge of Superior Judge Slobensky. Dominion immigration authorities who had left town hurried back here to await new developments. Samuel Jacobs, chief counsel for New York, held a conference in the matter with Mr. Jerome that lasted until after midnight. Roger Thompson, erstwhile Times square chauffeur', lounged about the hotel corridors Friday afternoon, dined and lunched near Jerome, wrote letters to friends, walked the streets unmolested and kept silence as regards the Thaw case. He was released on $500 bail on the double charge of having entered Canada by "stealth" and of having aided an undesirable un-desirable (Thaw) to cross the border. |
