Show < jjj TODAYS SESSION The Vymait Embezzlement Cai ie Charles F Rose ALone A-Lone U C The Third District Court proceedings today were again marked for variety embracing various classes of crimes as was the case in yesterdays session After the OBrian case had gone to the tinI jury the first matter taken up was the case against William J Hooper a lone cohab indicted upon one lone count Brother Hooper entered a plea of not guilty and went his way Charles F Rose was then called He had been previously arraigned on HL charge of grand larceny stealing a horse and had entered a plea of not guilty On being allowed to withdraw the former plea he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a term of three years in the reniientiary The next case called was that against F A Wyman charged with embezzlement embezzle-ment Wyman is a young fellow about 25 years old rather good looking and rather innocent looking He was engaged last year as a canvasser for the Singer Sewing Machine Agency in this city and after working in that capacity for about three months his ambition for wealth got the better of him and he began his work He was in the habit of selling machines and collecting money for them and then reporting to the company that the stock was still on hand This sort of thing went on during the entire month of January when it was at last discovered and the young man was arrested He had been arraigned previously and had entered a plea of not guilty but this morning he asked permission to with draw the plea and entered one of guilty Several witnesses were called to make statements in regard to Wyrnaiis character I char-acter and as those were all quite favorable favor-able the sentence was made light After stating that he had never been guilty of crime before the defendant stood up for sentence and received a term of one years imprisonment in the Penitentiary The court then adjourned until 2 p m |
