Show Roller Skaters Stage Benefit For Polio Drive Another outstanding commu- nity achievement was chalked i up for Sugar House this week when the benefit show at the Southast Roller Rink Tuesday night rang down the curtain on I the annual March of 1 Dimes drive- State and county drive officials were unanimous in their praise for this area's whole-hearted support to the campaign for funds to combat polio, and Area Chairman M. L. (Bud) Brain, said this section's contributions would run close to $1,000, including includ-ing the collections in the boxes and the proceeds from the roller rink benefit. This benefit was staged again this - year for the fourth consecutive con-secutive year by Al Larsen, manager of the rink who turned over the entire "gate" for the evening except for the federal tax. It Wcfs an interesting evening eve-ning and a real classy show Al and his skaters put on. The performance featured some of the outstanding skaters of the state, both amateur and professional, profes-sional, including Maurine Gray, ladies state novice champion; Frank Hodgson, intermediate men's stylist champ; Pat Geralds, Ger-alds, professional from Dayton, Ohio, and Howard Jensen, local "pro." The program included a wide variety of fancy figure work, waltz, polka and tango numbers, an acrobatic rhumba, a ballet, and just plain good skating. Ai opened the show with a brief welcome and introduced Mr. Brain who expressed the appreciation appre-ciation of the polio drive officials to all who had contributed and were participating in this show and in the entire drive |
