Show Local anti-war march gets underway today at noon The anti-war march sponsored by the United Front to End the Bombing will begin at noon today in Pioneer Memorial Park. The march will proceed east to State Street and then north to the Federal Bldg., where a rally will be held. Spokesmen for the group, Doug Epperson and Kirk Robinson, said they expect 5,000 or so marchers to participate. They expect contingents from churches, schools. Mountain Home Air Force Base and several towns in Idaho. A large number of University students and faculty are expected ex-pected to attend. Another march was held Sunday by a group of Salt Lake area women to protest the war. They left the Capitol at 1 p.m. and marched to the Federal Bldg. The women, headed by Ellen Monahan, left a wreath there dedicated "to the memory of every woman's dead." Still another protest is slated for Tuesday. A group of University students plans to stage a protest at 8 a.m. at the Hercules Corporation main entrance, which is located loca-ted at 80th West and 45th South. "Hercules manufactures missiles and missile propellents propel-lents used in Southeast Asia," said a spokesman for the group, "and nobody has even pointed an accusing finger their way. We're going to show we're aware of what they're doing." Rides to the Hercules plant will be available at 7:30 a.m. at Memory Grove, they said. The local march today is being staged in loose conjunction with national anti-war actions in New York, Washington and other large cities. A march in New York last Friday attracted 50,000 supporters. Organizers of the local march are hopeful of a strong showing, to indicate that local concern over the United States actions in Southeast Asia has not declined. |
