Show ORIENTATION WEEK KICKS OFF CAMPUS ACTIVITIES; INITIATION PLANS So you cant figure out why there are all these things going on for a whole week before classes even begin. Seems a little frivolous for a college purporting to have such a high academic standing, doesnt it? Well, if this is the only thing thats bothering you, let me put you completely at ease. We are are all pretty much alike when it gets right down to having fun. What I mean is that it is no fun alone. Right? Right. Ask people like Hitler (who never had a rally no fun pitching to a wall), by himself), Stan Musial, Magellan, (Welcome aboard I hate to sail alone), or Sasaraque (No territory is worth knowing unless it has people.) So the whole idea of this week is to have a little fun together before we are forced to sit down by ourselves and start at books. (Its For your further edification, let me elaborate on some of the events planned for orientation week. Sunday, September 12, from 2:00 to 3:15 is an import-- , ant meeting of your parents and the administration of the school. This is important to you only in that you may relax for a while, free from Dads advice and Moms worries about whether the laundry facilities are adequate. Perhaps at this time you will meet your new roommate and begin a conversation which may well last for nine months or longer. At 4:30 on Monday there is a meeting of students interested in participating in some phase of the music pro- - gram on campus. This is not a committal and is not limited to virtuosos, so if you are interested at all, take this opportunity to get to know the people in the music department. .That night we plan to have a watermelon bust in the ravine, which is the wilderness at the southern end of the campus. The Student Education Association has consented to sponsor this event which will, no doubt, include a seedtalent against Skip spitting contest. Pit your Hill, contender for the Worlds Championship. Tuesday night is a concert in the Robinson Room. At this printing the nature of the concert is an extremely secret, so I can honestly offer no further information concerning it. Wednesday evenings activity is one you wont want to miss. In the lounge, starting at 8 p.m., you will have a chance to learn more about the many campus organizations. Dont let these people high pressure you into joining every club but remember that this sort of activity is a part of your education, too. Not on hand will be representatives of the Club, an organization which boasts no dues, no meetings, no officers. Dont fail to not join. This writer is not a member. Thursday is registration day. This is a very trying time, especially when you and your money are separated. But by pit-spitti- ng well-guard- No-Cl- ub ed |
