Only Utah residents may apply for Sportsman permits. One Sportsman Permit is offered for each of the following species: Desert bighorn ram, buck deer, buck pronghorn, bull elk, bull moose, hunters choice bison, and hunters choice Rocky Mountain goat. The2(X)l SMrtsman Permit hunt runs Sept. 1 - Dec. 31, 2001. Hunters are allowed to hunt on any unit open for the respective species, except the Pilot Mountain Unit. Fisherman reels em in For a fisherman, just about every day is a good day to be fishing. Manning hooked a Splake at Joes Valley Reservoir on Nov. 6 and after a 20 minute battle of wills with the 32 long:, 22 girth fish he was able to bring it in on his test line. The catch, which is a near record for the lake, comes on the heels of taking the record for catch and release Splake on Nov. 4. This fish measured 22 long. Manning also holds the record for Albino fish caugbt at the lake, which is 2 ounces. Hutchings also reminds hunters that a $5 nonrefundable handling fee is required for each species for which a hunter applies. Results of the Sportsman I'ermit Draw will be posted Dec. 1 , at D- s approaching Sign ups for Junior Jazz for the entire county will be Nov. 15, and Nov. 16, from 5-- 7 p.m. at the Utah Power and Light Credit Union in Huntington. There will be no late signups accepted this year. If you think you might want to play, you need to sign up these two 1 ivision offices in Ogden, Salt Luke City, Springville, Vernal, Price, and Cedar City, and on the Divisions at web site Internet www.nr.state.ut.usdwrdwr.htm. Beginning Dec. 13, draw results also will be posted at the Lee Kay Center for Hunter Education, 0000 W. 2100 S. in Salt Lake City. Beginning Dec. 14, draw results will be posted at the Cache Valley Hunter Education Center, 2851 W. 200 N. in days, only, or make other arrangements. The Junior High Schoolss season ends earlier this year so we encourage all Jr. High aged students to sign up (both boys and girls). Practice will start in December and games will begin in January.
