Although it may seem that there is nothing to do until the spring, there are many preparations prepa-rations that should be taking place. If any senior has not taken that ACT, he or she must take it as soon as possible. If you have your scores, or will soon be receiving your scores, make sure they are sent to the colleges and universities that you are interested in attending. attend-ing. Seniors should also begin the college application process. Students who haven't yet applied ap-plied should start researching potential colleges and universities, universi-ties, requesting information and filling out admissions applications. ap-plications. A big worry on the mind of many college hopefuls is money. There are endless opportunities for financial aid. Get online and start applying for scholarships; apply tor as many as you can. Each year many, many scholarships scholar-ships go unclaimed because students stu-dents simply do not apply; too many students wrongly assume that they don't have a chance for scholarships. Take the chance and apply for several scholarships. Also, make sure to fill out a FAFSA form, it is a Free Application Ap-plication for Financial Student Aid (visit the website to fill out the online application www.fafsa.ed.gov). The FAFSA FAF-SA form is the required first step for financial aid opportunities opportu-nities at most colleges and universities uni-versities (public and private). r . HU f W Ktm - - ; 1 ;yji I jf I I I I ) V;' i In addition to filling out financial fi-nancial aid forms and admission admis-sion forms, many seniors must get letters of recommendation. Ask people who aren't related to you to write a letter of recommendation. rec-ommendation. Help your letter-writers write strong letters. let-ters. Be sure to explain the purpose of the letter of recommendation recom-mendation (Are you applying for admissions to a university or are you applying for a specific spe-cific scholarship?). It can also be very helpful if you write up a list of highlights you would like included in the letter (What clubs or extracurricular extracur-ricular activities have you been involved with? What leadership positions have you held?). Make sure you have a variety of letters from different differ-ent people like teachers, bosses, boss-es, coworkers, and family SHS Calendar Jason Richey SHS STAFF WRITER Here's what's happening at SHS this week: Friday, Nov. 18 Fall Sports Recognition Assembly- (35min) AM "Les Miserables" performance perfor-mance 7 p.m., SHS Auditorium Audito-rium Saturday, Nov. 19 Cross Country Pre-Footlocker Pre-Footlocker at the Tri-City Golf Course, A.F.
