The Red Devil Basketall program has struggled since going to the title game in 1999 against Timpview, but this year's team has the talent tal-ent and desire to change that. They will be led by seniors se-niors Brennan Foster and BJ Smith. Complementing them are juniors Preston Eaton, Sean Merkley, Kam Kester, Nick Alvey, Jeremy Baum and Scott Kitchen, and sophomores Kurt Averett and Ben Doxey. This year's team has the size and toughness to compete com-pete with the elite teams, not only in the region, but also in the entire state. Her mother came to adult roles and taught the class about the native cultures cul-tures of Hawaii. Ms. Curran worked at the Polynesian Culture Center in Hawaii and taught visitors about Hawaiian traditions. In class, she demonstrated the traditional Hula and then the students had the opportunity opportu-nity to learn the dance. The students took off their shoes, she put on Hula music, and the students picked up the dance quickly. The students really enjoyed en-joyed learning about the traditions tra-ditions of the Hawaiian people peo-ple and how different people throughout the world live. Red Devil swimmers take first at meet Erin Young SHS STAFF WRITER Last Wednesday, Nov. 8, the Springville Red Devils Swim Team had a tri-meet against Provo and South Summit. The Red Devils were victorious against both teams. There were many great swims for both teams including includ-ing the boy's 400 freestyle relay, the girl's 200 medley relay .Mike Buzbee, Taylor Cooper, Trachelle Tanner, Annie Williams, Jeff Williams, and Julie Call all had great swims. Then, on Saturday, Nov. 12, the swim team went to the Utah County Invitational, where all the Utah County Schools were in attendance including Provo, Orem, Lone Peak, Spanish Fork, Lehi, Timpview, Mountain View, and American Fork. It was a race to the finish for the men's team in order to win the meet. The men's team was in first for most of the meet, until un-til the end of the meet, when Orem caught up to us. Coach Rae figured out that if the men's 400 relay could get first, then the men's team would win the meet, but if they didn't then they would tie tor first place. They ended end-ed up placing third and tied with Orem. The men's 400 relay, which included swimmers Taylor Cooper, Eric Buzbee, Tim Call, and Dan Simmons, was a great swim by all the members. mem-bers. The girls' team placed fifth; however, the girls' team was in fourth most of the meet; it was the 400 freestyle that decided the meet. There were many great swims by the Springville swimmers, including in-cluding fantastic swims by Eric Buzbee, Taylor Cooper, Bryant Taylor, Alex Benkie, Mindy Workman, Christine Vaughan, and Katrina Walser.
