Les Miserables a 'must see' at Springville High AubiyJMetham SHS STAFF WRITER The Springville High School drama department has been working extremely hard to put together the Broadway Broad-way production of "Les Miserables." Ever since the end of September, students have been rehearsing their parts night and day. Friday, November 11, was the opening night for the play. All the excitement and energy of the cast and crew bubbled up back stage as the performers prepared to show off their stuff. Hailey Sutterfield beamed, "Nothing was comparable! We were so good, we could have taken Broadway!" Her words are true. The performance was amazing! It was so intense; most of the audience had goose bumps and chills up their arms. Many also sat there in awe as each scene was magnificently and emotionally acted with deep passion. Tiffany Fish commented, "The universal themes in Les Mis are so real to life. The students performed their best with such passion." You can't help but be amazed. Catherine Cooley stated, "Les Mis isn't just a play. It's a lifestyle. It teaches the importance of lire as a whole. It also teaches what attributes make life worthwhile." The students put in much work and a ton of effort into making this play a valuable experience for themselves as well as their audiences. Jason Richey says, "So much time and dedication has been put forth to make this play amazing. I think it really paid off." Watching the student edition of Les Miserables was a great and quite enjoyable experience. For those who missed the show last week, "Les Miserables" Miser-ables" will be playing again on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, Nov. 18, 19 and 21, at 7 p.m. in the SHS auditorium. auditori-um. After the practice, they traveled to Old Sacramento and had fun touring the shops there. That evening, the band traveled back to Esparto High to perform a half-time show for their football game. At first, the crowd was skeptical about the band, but afterwards, people peo-ple were heard commenting, "Why don't we have a band?" The last day of the trip arrived, ar-rived, and members got ready to show California just what SHS is made of. They traveled to the Grape Bowl Classic Competition in Lodi, California. The band had some time to relax, and then they prepared for their show. At 5 p.m., Springville took the field, showing off the music and moves they had worked so hard on. At the awards ceremony later that night, their hard work paid off. Springville took first place in their category, cate-gory, third place color guard in the entire competition, competi-tion, and first place percussion percus-sion in the entire competition. competi-tion. Miss Hart and the band were very proud of their accomplishment. ac-complishment. The band traveled home through the early Sunday hours, arriving back at SHS at about noon. Students are chosen by the counselors to become Peer Helpers. That means they are assigned a new student to friendship and show around the school. Many of the pictured students have already al-ready had an opportunity to be a peer helper to a new student stu-dent this year. Some of them even eat lunch with their new friends. Besides that, it was getting harder for me to hear clearly when I was in a room that had a lot of noise in the background. Another thing I used to do was drive for miles with my car turn signal on because I couldn't hear the clicking sound telling me it was still on. Many times my friends would tell me that they had tried to call me and had let the phone ring and ring and ring before hanging up, and I would have been home but just didn't hear the phone ring. My children told me it was time to think about getting a hearing aid but I didn't want to believe them, I didn't want to be one of those "old geezers" that used hearing aids and I didn't think my hearing loss was that bad. But all that changed one day when I was babysitting my three year old grandson. He had gone out to play in my backyard, I have a fence all around it so I wasn't too worried that he was out there by himself. I went out to tell him his lunch was ready and I couldn't find him. I looked everywhere, in my garden, behind the bushes, in the woodpile, everywhere. I was just frantic and ready to call the police when I saw his little i w t. hand reaching out of the window well. He . had fallen in as he was chasing a ball and couldn't get out. I couldn't hear him calling call-ing for me to help him! He had been crying and calling for me for five minutes! What a terrible grandma I was, he could have really been hurt and needing me and I wouldn't have heard him. That's when I decided I needed to get help with my hearing. I had seen these big full page ads in the newspaper news-paper saying that I could get 2 hearing aids for the price of 1, the ad said that the hearing aids were top-of-the-line and almost invisible. I knew those were the kind I wanted but I was skeptical about the price. I may have been getting older but I wasn't stupid, I know that you don't get something for nothing. I figured they would find a way to tiy to get me to pay ' full price, but I wasn't going to let them. When I called to make an appointment I told the girl just that, she laughed and told me that their advertisements were true and they weren't trying to pull anything on me and I could find out for myself. The day I went in to Mr. Harris's office for my appointment the secretary, Renea, greeting me bv name and invited me to sit down and have some candy. I didn't have to wait more that five minutes before Mr. Harris was ready for me. He was so nice! He explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it. He had a really big screen that showed me what the inside of my ear looked like, there was really a lot of ear wax built up in my ear and he cleaned that out for me with a special tool while I watched. It was really interesting. He tested my hearing and told me that I had a moderate hearing loss. I looked at the different kinds of hearing aids that he said would work for my hearing loss. He showed me some hearing aids that were the name brands that I had read about in consumer reports, I couldn't believe how much they cost! I didn't know how I could afford the type of hearing aids I wanted! Then he told me that he owned his own lab and they manufactured the same type of hearing aids with the very same components as the name brand ones. In fact, he showed me the reports comparing the brands and his ActiveEar brand scored very well among the top instruments instru-ments out there, only because they cut out the middleman he could save me 50 off the name brand price. And boy was he right! I got 2 digital, programmable hearing aids from Harris Hearing for the cost of 1 of the name brand ones! And I just love them! You can hardly see them when I'm wearing them and you can't believe how great it is to have my hearing back! I didn't realize how many sounds I'd been missing! My life has improved so much, I am so grateful grate-ful to have met Robert Harris. I would highly recommend to anyone that has a hearing loss to come and have the free exam and test that he offers. He also guarantees that if you have any problems with fit, comfort, technology, or sound quality of his instruments he will refit them, change brands or do whatever it takes to make sure you are happy with your hearing aids, and he'll do it at his expense not yours! I told him I would write this testimonial for him so others would know that his advertising claims are true. Come in to their office at 330 West Center in Provo and find out for yourself. Call Renea or Kim at 373-6827 to make an appointment for the free test and exam because you'll be glad you did! Sincerely, Pam Reynolds P.S. And if you mention my name, he has a special gift for you!
