Show Literary Club Celebrated 79th Birthday Saturday The Woman's Literary Club met at 6:30 p.m., March 15 in the Balsley Hall of the Community Com-munity Baptist Church for their 79th Birthday Party. They were organized March 8, 1898 at 3:00 p.m. and met at the home of Lulu Goodman. Past Presidents who are still active members were, the hostesses. They are Ila Cor-bin, Cor-bin, Jen Pope, Pearl Taylor, Madge Warde, Palma Jacobs, Ann Pool, Carol Hines, Jua-nita Jua-nita Mabery, with Mrs. Pope as chairman. Mrs. Pope gave a short history of club accomplishments accomplish-ments including: first side walk, first library, first museum, mu-seum, deleting of shooting on Main Street, entrance to cem-etary, cem-etary, road to Power Dam, which was the first swimming pool, street signs, Girl Scout Troop 190, SUCCE scholarship, scholar-ship, registration of Jeep Safari, Sa-fari, keep at Sundwall Center, numerous clean-up drives, and two negative projects for the nursing home and Civic Center. The most recent project pro-ject was raising money to finish the Solarium at the hospital, furnishing of furniture, furni-ture, piano, and now a whirlpool whirl-pool in offing. Howard Knight sang "A Perfect Day" and several other numbers accompanied on the piano by Jean LeFevre. Attorney, A. J. Coffman, gave a talk on "Wills and Estate Planning" including property disposed, owner rights, inheritance in-heritance tax, and new tax laws. Question and answer period followed. This was a banquet with husbands and other guests invited, catered by Millers. Decorations were birthday party favors and a centerpiece of yellow carnations and greenery - green and yellow are club colors. Guests were Jean Corbin (Mrs. Wally), Jack Corbin, Richard Unger, Lloyd Pier-son, Pier-son, John Levering, Lester Barwick, W. R. McArthur, J. B. and June Latham (nee Hansen of Monticello), Phil and Rhea Gramlich, Howard Balsley, Harold Jacobs, Robert Rob-ert Rose, Mr. and Mrs. Knight and Mr. and Mrs. John LeFevre. |
