Show ::VVf?Vv &': F the country that lies between a thin sliver proposed for Fifty Mile Mountain and a diminutive slice proposed within die Canyon complex. The Kaiparowits is a microcosm of S. 884HJL 1745. Symbolic of the manner in which their entire bill was crafted, it is not wilderness which the delegation sees in the Kaiparowits, but opportunities for large-scacoal development The bill seeks not to protect lands, but to zone lands for industrial development Simply Ignoring die region's wilderness values, however, is not enough for the Utah delegation. One of the more outrageous and little known provisions of the delegation's bill actually turns over to the State of Utah more than 50,000 acres of wilderness because of the coal which underlies the region. Giving the heart Kaiparowits of the Kaiparowits to Utah is akin to placing Dracula in control of the blood bank. Under the guise of generating revenues for Utah's education interests, the Kaiparowits' very heart would be ripped out and served up on a silver platter to foreign mining interests. This $2 million-plu- s annual gift from US. taxpayers to the state is just another one of the hidden of the public trust contained in S. 884HJL 1745.
