MANY PEOPLE VISIT FOREST IN 1931 recreational use of the wasatch national forest has not nob been affected adversely by the depression as Is evidenced by a 27 per cent increase of visitors over 1930 according to a report of the local forest the total visitors were estimated to be which exceeds any previous year and represents presenta re ar increase of if over 1930 the most intensive use occurred in big cottonwood mill and american fork canyons mirror lake lak upper provo river and asper grove numerous encampments encamp ments organization outings and outdoor conferences together with the attractions tr of the utah outdoor camp and Timpa cave national monument tended to swell the amount of recreational use mirror lake is gaining in popularity and was visited by approximately recreation a lists last season it forms an important entrance to uie the high chita primitive area and particularly picturesque granddaddy Gran daddy lake basin during the recreational season particularly over july 4 the forest service made a careful check of the use of the upper provo river and mirror lake recreational areas at the ithe same time conducting an educational cat ional campaign by stopping all automobiles and warning the mccu pants against the use of tire fire work E and carelessness with camp tires fires A total of 1078 cars carrying people were stopped in the one canyon during this holiday campaign
