And every Reagan move of this kind makes Mr. Ford look more like a candidate, of the center and a champion of the middle road. Mr. Fords background is conservative. His behavior since becoming President has been no less conservative. He has offended the cities by his veto of the housing bill. He has deeply disappointed a majority of the 'American people and I1 - the moment at least, the effective pull on President Ford inside his own party is from the right. He is being kept up to the conservative mark by all those Reagan banners waving tentatively on the right. If the liberals complain, there the ready explanation that it must be done to protect the endangered right flank. It comes close to being an ideal political position for Mr. Ford. If Mr. Reagan does declare himself formally as a rival candidate for the Republican nomination there will be two results: both favorable to Mr. Ford. It will further underline his position az, the man in the middle. And it will rescue the Republican nominating procedure and convention from the dullness which usually attends those events in the Republican Party, The Democrats beloo more This could be an effective within the party. Since Mr. Rockefeller is an incumbent by grace of Gerald Ford, he is neutralized as a tounterpressure on the left. Irvine, Republican representative to the Utah State Legislature from Davis County, attempted to east a shadow of doubt upon the initiative petition for recall and the American. Party. With the following facts in mind, I would like to ask several questions of Rep. Irvine: 1, The Davis County Republican Convention of 1974 adopted a recall plank in its platform. 2. The American Party did not instigate the recall movement. Being one of the instigators, let me point out who the others were. Three active Republicans, two belonging to no party, and one American Party member initiated the recall movement. 3 in a free society such as ours, the right to organize clubs, teams and churches and political parths is inherent. We accept without question the right for dubs to censure or expel unwanted members, It is understood that a team member who will not accept a coach's discipline is removed from that team. Church courts frequently excommunicate members. Now may I ask several questions of Rep. Irvine? Why didn't he, as a representative from Davis County, help sponsor a recall bill when recall was part of his county platform? Where does the idea come from that the recall movement is an American Party creation? Would he, as a member of the Republican Party, question the right of the American Party to censure its members? - rk) 7 .. . ,, ''...r;;. .,,,,,,,,,,, Al", . Letters from our readers Recall bill framers Tiresomely repeated reports are heard blaming labor, middlemen, big business. Arabs, the state, the county, oil men, etc., for inflation. Almost anyone caught raising prices is held to the fire by the news media and, unfortunately believed. None of these groups has an control whatever over inflation. Inflation is caused by enlarging the money supply out of balance with material worth. It can happen only one place: Washington, D.C. In simplest terms, if the politicians double the money supply, money is worth so you'll need twice as many dollars to live as well. Neither the governor, County assessor,' a foreign nation, nor your employer can materially affect our inflation, There is no point in blaming the victims of inflation. If voters wanted to do someas they thing about it conservaclearly have not tives would have to replace the rationalizing liberals now controlling the money supply.
