Show County Commission Highlights PANGUITCH Garfield County Commissioners Clare Ramsay, Louise Liston and Maloy Dodds opened Monday morning's Commission Com-mission meeting to a relatively full day's agenda. County Engineer Brian Brcmncr updated the commission on the progress of the Boulder Road Shed construction and slated that he had advised contractors Dodds and Talbot who arc finishing in a timely fashion, that an open house isset for May 4, in conjunction wilh the regularly scheduled meeting meet-ing of the Boulder Town Council Brcmncr noted he may expand the Tropic County Road Shed to a different site wiihin Tropic. Brcmncr stated more room is needed and he will check into more acreage He said the county needs approximately 2-3 acres that he hopes will cost no more than $3,000 an acre." Brcmncr said Tropic officials are encouraging relocation at a site near the sewer lagoon lane. As part of a Class B Roads review, re-view, the commission and Brcmncr discussed overhauling a portion of (See Garfield County Commission Highlights on Page 4A) Commission From Page 1 Pass Creek Road and the county road south of Hatch near the information center, the latter in response to a request from the Hatch Town Council. County Commissioners asked Bremner to be present on April 17 at 9 a.m. for the first of regular monthly meetings between the commission and representatives of multi federal and state agencies. Representatives of the USFS, NPS, BLM, DWR, etc. will update the county on agency activities and concerns. Commissioners Clare Ramsay and Maloy Dodds met April 8 with the Hatch Town Council. He said the council inquired about where they stand as a city in the area of fire liability. The commission will draw up a memorandum of understanding under-standing between the county and Hatch Town concerning fire coverage. Hatch officials also expressed a desire for additional deputy coverage for speeders in their town. This was taken up later in the meeting when Sheriff Than Cooper was present pre-sent to discuss the selection of a new county deputy. A number of people in attendance expressed their appreciation for the excellent coverage cover-age provided by Cooper's department, depart-ment, including that of Antimony and Hatch towns. Cooper appreciated appreci-ated the input and offered to attend a future Hatch Town meeting to discuss dis-cuss perceptions on deputy coverage. The Hatch council also asked for for assistance from the county on a dog ordinance. Discussion rccvcalcd that many like the dog ordinance adopted and implemented by Panguitch City. Wally Lee will continue looking into the dog ordinance situation. Garfield County Sheriff Than Cooper discussed the selection of a new deputy to cover the EscalantcBouldcr area upon the retirement re-tirement of Deputy Celeste Bernards Ber-nards who had provided statistics covering the past few years that revealed that significantly more activity was required in the Escalante area. The commission broke into a one-hour executive session to discuss the hiring of a new deputy for the area but made no announcement upon returning to the regular session to keep their next appointment with Alfred Foster. Sheriff Cooper explained to the commission that Foster was seeking a fair and equitable dispatch of towing operators, a service that is handled through the Sheriffs dispatchers. Cooper informed the commission that he wants to meet with all the towing operators together to address the issue, including Foster's, Thomas Auto, and Paul's Auto. A bid opening was held for improvements im-provements to the Garfield County Fairgrounds. This was a bid that was let for new men's and women's rcstrooms, designed also for handicapped handi-capped accessibility. The first bid was from LaMont Savage Construction, Panguitch for $33,360.77; a second bid was opened from Dodds & Talbot Construction, Panguitch for $29,150.00. A motion was made by commissioners to award the bid to Dodds & Talbot as the lower bidder with the stipulation that the bids be subject to review by Bruce Fullmer, who was out-of-town. Fullmer would need to check how much money was appropriated in the budget for the project and the exact conditions of the contract. Two county business licenses were granted: one for Jill Nowers, Panguitch for her in-home video business, "Memories - Photos on Video". The second was for Brian Bremner who operates a private engineering en-gineering firm, "Beehive Engineering," Engi-neering," out of his home. The Public Lands Resolution was again on the agenda but tabled without discussion. The commission discussed that a raise was needed in the per diem rate for county employees. It was subsequently set at breakfast $6; lunch $7 and dinner $13, for a daily per diem for food of $26 per day. (Sec Garfield County Commission Highlights on Page 5A) Commission Meeting Highlights From Pace 4A There was a reminder of the public pub-lic hearing on wilderness to be held Friday, 8 a.m. in Cedar City and later that day in Richfield. The commission announced that printed copies of Garfield County's Recommendation Recom-mendation for Wilderness arc available for review at the Garfield County Courthouse and at city offices of-fices in Boulder, Escalantc and Tropic. The Commission met with Airport Manager Greg Pollock concerning con-cerning progress on the construction construc-tion at the Brycc Canyon Airport. The commission wants to get a better handle on projected revenues and expenditures at the airport. Greg will provide a monthly transaction trans-action report on fuel to Commissioners Com-missioners as he keeps daily records of all transactions. Additionally, it was decided that Clare Ramsay, Greg Pollock and Camille Moore would meet the following day to pull together in a workable format, all information on the airport project so commissioners could have a complete update by the next meeting. , |
