Show New Deputy For Escalante PANGUITCH After mara-hon mara-hon executive sessions at Monday's meeting of the Garfield County commission, Sheriff Than Cooper and Commissioners Louise Liston , Maloy Dodds and Clare Ramsay agreed upon a selection for Esca-lantcBouldcr's Esca-lantcBouldcr's new deputy sheriff. Their second executive session went well into the evening before a decision was reached. Their choice is Monte Lukcr, 55, of Salt Lake City. Luker's 31 years of experience on the Salt Lake City Police Department and his availability for immediate employment were strong factors contributing to the final decision. Lukcr was newly retired under Salt Lake City's mandatory retirement law. Cooper acknowledged the decision deci-sion was a tough one with many qualified applicants for the post. There were 11 applicants, four of whom made it to the final round. Luker will begin work early next week, replacing Deputy Celeste Bernards who voluntarily remained on the job beyond the April 1 date she had originally planned to leave. Luker, his wife who is a Cannonville native, and their 16-ycar-old son will live in Escalante. |
