Show weed control work will begin april 15 at a meeting of the county corn com cittee on weed control held at the county agents office on friday april 9 it was decided to be ready to begin work on weed control by april 15 today 1948 mr george L hobson state weed supervisor from salt lake city and representing the utah state board of agriculture reviewed the pro gress being made on weed control throughout the state and made the following recommendations to be followed for control of weeds dur mg ing 1948 I 1 that members of the county committee visit plats which were under control last year and outline procedure for 1948 2 that on crop land weed con arol should supplement the crops and not replace them it has been found that competition of the growing crops aids the 2 4 D to con arol most noxious weeds 3 that cooperation of farm own ers in the program is imperative spraying or clean cultivation will not do it all if the weeds are to be controlled the land must ae oe pro pertly used and full and corn com cooperation with the county weed supervisor made 4 that a constant lookout be kept by all farmers and weed corn com mitte emen to spot and help to keep in check any new weeds ap in the county details of the weed control pro eject for 1948 as worked out by the committee in cooperation with mr hobson include the following I 1 that chemical weed control contro I 1 will be undertaken with all co operators to t the he extent of the cap acety of the county owned equip ment and man power being used for that purpose 2 that 2 4 D chemicals for weed control will be supplied by the county and applied under sion approximately at cost 3 that all applications for coun ty assistance in control of weeds be made through the county ag ent ants s office 4 that where possible all farm operators avail themselves of the benefits of the program in which this organization will re fund to them 50 percent of the cost of chemicals used on approved con arol areas |
