Central School third graders sing patriotic songs to senior citizens during their lunch at the Golden Age Center. .. .v - Lynn Winward and Glen Hunsaker Eagle Scout award ceremony held for two local scouts Lynn H. Winward and Glen S. Hunsaker Hun-saker achieved the ranks of Eagle Scout, the highest award in Scouting, at a Boy Scout Court of Honor under the direction of Vernal Third Ward Troop Committee, Troop 230, Sunday, Feb. 7. The Court of Honor was conducted by Paul Pieper, Bishopric Counselor. Bob Oswald, District Scouting Executive, paid tribute to Glen. Lloyd L. Winward, an Eagle Scout and brother, spoke in behalf of Lynn. The Eagle award and charge were given by the boys' former Scoutmaster and Chairman of the Order of the Arrow, Keith Caldwell, Jr. Lynn, the son of Lloyd and Alta Winward, Win-ward, Vernal, has earned the Arrow of Light, Faith in God and On My Honor awards. He has served as senior patrol leader for two years, and he completed his Eagle Project by planting 300 castor bean plants at the Dinosaur Gardens with the help of eight scouts from his troop. Lynn, an eighth grader at Vernal Jr. High, carries a 4.0 grade average in his school studies and has received the "Outstanding Student" award. He attended at-tended the National Scout Jamboree in Virginia in July 1981 and he has been tapped out for membership in the Uintah Uin-tah District Order of the Arrow. Glen is the son of Ray and Sally Hunsaker, Hun-saker, Vernal. He has earned his Arrow of Light, On My Honor and Duty to God awards. Glen has been Chapter Chief of the Order of the Arrow in this district for two years and helped at several High Uinta camps and Merit Badge Pow Wows. He is presently the assistant assis-tant scoutmaster of Troop 230. A senior at Uintah High School, Glen has maintained a 3.4 grade point average. He works for Vernal Electric as an apprentice electrician. For his Eagle project, Glen cleaned up and establihsed a picnic area just west of Vernal Jr. High, donated a picnic pic-nic table and arranged for garbage pickup so tourists could have a spot to rest as they enter Vernal. At the court of honor the Cub Scouts of Den 1 sang "God Bless America" under the direction of their Den Mother Liz Sowards. Paul Jensen sang "Stouthearted Men" at the closing of the meeting, after which refreshments were served to about 80 people who stayed to congratulate the new Eagles. Eagles present in the Eagles nest were Curtis Tucker, Dennis Spackman, John Millecam, Leon Hoyt, Varr Snedaker, Lloyd L. Winward and Arnie Anthon. |
