Page 1 5 At the State Bar tournament held Jan 18 Delta out pointed all 2A competitors to take first place in small schools In addition the forensics squad beat all 3A competitors and if it would have been 4A the team would have placed fourth Out of four divisions competitors placed first in two and second in one In junior novice division Neysa Plummer and Angela Stahli earned first For both of the girls this was their first placing in a tournament Jenny Killian and Desiree Renich earned first in the junior varsity division Traditionally the JV division is for but competitors Desiree moved up a division to debate with Jenny Jenny is has only two years of experience but usually debates in next highest division Jenny and Desiree defeated one of the top JV teams in the state from Davis High School to win the final round The final round in varsity division saw Joel Sannes and John Escott losing to Timpview High School This was the pair’s first tournament together Delta took speaker Individually awards in novice and varsity divisions Stephanie Young placed seventh in novice and Shareen Abdellah earned first place In varsity division Joel Sannes earned the first place speaker award Joel did that by receiving near perfect 119 of 120 points The team defeated its closest 2A Grand Co High School competitor by a large margin This sets up a close race for the state championship as Moab and Delta are the most highly ranked 2A teams in the state The coach of the team Mr Hansen called the success “the best we’ve had as a squad” He went on to say that “the team gets better every week” At this rate he says the team should be unstoppable at state competition TriDels sponsor fundraising dance This Friday the TriDels will sponsor a dance to raise money to go to region competitions The dance will be held in the gym and everyone is invited to come from 9:00 to midnight The TriDels selections of music will vary but will mostly be January New Year’s origin was recognized by most January people as New Year’s Day in the 1500's when the Gregorian calendar was adopted The Chinese New Year today falls between January 21 and February 19 each year For Iran it’s March 21 Since the Hindus belong to many different religious groups each group has a different day as the beginning of its New Year The Jewish New Year is a feast day celebrated in late September about the time of the autumnal courage others to prepare themselves and work toward being a sterling scholar candidate” Debbie says she is willing to do the wotk necessary to represent Delta High well Debbie Wardle Debbie Wardle moves to region Debbie Wardle a senior at Delta High has been chosen to represent the school as the music Sterling Scholai candidate She is the daughter ol Alan and Julia Wardle Teachers out of each area chose one student who they think will best Then each student the school competes on a regional level and will be judged on his or her academic stancharacter and comdard leadership munity service Debbie has a long list of acin She has music complishments played the piano for ten years the flute for five years and the piccolo for a year She also plays the piano for Show Choir and a girls’ church choir She sings for the school’s show choit and has been involved in acappella for a year to She had the opportunity in the Miss Young Ametica pageant which was held in California She played the piano for her talent Debbie had been considering trying for the music sterling scholar candidate rnr two months She said "Besides to help me having this opportunity prepare for the future It will help to prepare for a future education Count your convenience blessings in 1986 Did you go to bed last night with the snow sifting in through the cracks in your bedroom?
