Show USEFUL IMPLEMENT IN ARID SECTIONS The implement shown In the Illustration Illus-tration Is used with good effect In the arid districts of I'tah and other western west-ern states. It not only deals effectively effective-ly with weeds, but sIho tends to level the surface and create the necessary "dust blanket" mulch. The Implement Imple-ment consists of a rectangle, 10 by 4 feet, made of two Inch planks 8 Inches wide. To the under side of the 10-foot 10-foot planks are bolted nine knives, made from U-lnrh steels. 24 Inches lorg. The steel Is bent eight Inches from one end, bo that It will drop down behind the plank. The knives are bolted to the plank diagonally at on ancle of 4! degrees by means ol two bolts. The bind Is about three inches deep, which allows the knives to work that distance below the surface sur-face of the ground. The long part of the steel below the bend is sharp-ned sharp-ned on the front side, so that weeds will be cut. The knives on the front slope to the right, while those ou the rear plank slope to the left. This arrangement makes It Impossible for any weeds to b- missed, or any part of the ground to remain unstirred, thereby preparing a bed for rainfall |
