The anniversary marks a stepping step-ping stone in the operation of one of the most popular businesses in the Sugar House area, for it was just five years ago that the huge, hangar-like building threw open its doors to the public. However, the name Dan Gardener Garden-er has been synonymous with the grocery business in this area for Continued Inside DAN'S MARKET OBSERVING 5 ANNIVERSARY Continued from page 1 more than 35 years, for Dan's father operated a neighborhood store at 17th South and 9th East for more than a quarter of a century. In fact, the senior Gardener, who passed away a few years ago, used to do one of the largest credit and delivery grocery businesses in southeast Salt Lake. Young Dan cut his teeth on, and grew up in the grocery business. He learned that a satisfied customer custom-er and personal attention lends a great deal to keeping them coming back. He even graduated from the University Uni-versity of Utah with a degree in marketing. And while Dan's market today is of the super-market variety, it still has that neighborhood touch and the friendly family feeling, which makes the customer feel that each clerk, each attendant and each checker is taking a concerned personal interest in his visit to the store. And there are between 50 and 1 55 employes at Dan s, each polite and eager to serve, to keep the well-stocked shelves tidy and to lug out the bags of groceries to cars parked in the spacious, one acre lot that surrounds the huge store. Indeed, one might will take a trip out to 21st South and 21st East this next week and enjoy a shopping visit that will not only offer select bargains at reasonable prices, but which will provide free balloons for the youngsters as well. Helping Dan start his celebration were Kent Birrell, son of Mrs. Doris Dalton, 1932 South 20 East; Becky and Judy Hamilton, daughters daugh-ters of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Hamilton, 1625 South 23 East, and Brent Clay Russey. |
