This Is the largest amount ever carried for the annual expenditures of the postal service. The salaries of postul elerks of both city and rural carriers uro lncrensed to a total of $7,000,000. Provision is inserted In the hill for the classification classifica-tion ot postal clerks and tho position of clerks nnd carriers are made Interchangeable. Inter-changeable. There aro various provisions In the hill Intended to redtico tho pay to railroads rail-roads for carrying tho malls. It Is estimated es-timated that this reduction will amount to something lllte $12,000,000 a year. The rate for hauling dally from 5,000 to 48,000 pounds Is reduced G por cent, from 48,000 to 80,001) pounds 10 por cent, and tho present rate of $21.37 per ton for amounts above 80,000 pounds Is reduced to $19. These reductions, It Is estimated, will amount to $3,000,000 a year. A saving of $1,000,000 moro Is estimated as a result of reductions In railroad post-ofllce post-ofllce pay. Tho bill cuts off all pay of roads for hauling empty mall sacks, which It Is estimated will save between be-tween $3,000,000 nnd $4,000,000 a year.
