Show boosters for new route to coast hold meeting 0 business men of eureka delta ely lynndyl lynndal and Hi hinckley were in salt lake last saturday tor for a con terence forence with the utah automobile association the object being to dl vert travel over the grand central highway the new route to the coast byway of these towns the representatives from these cities also had a meeting at the new house hotel with representatives of the lincoln highway in view 0 of the tact fact that the lincoln highway Is now impassable and that it will likely remain in that condit condition on throughout the summer months it was suggested that the route be changed temporarily and tourists touris sent over the grand central high way this proposition will be sub sull bitted to the officials of the lincoln highway but in view of the tact fact that these men live in the east and know but little about their highway or western conditions in general there ie is little chance of their operation cooperation in the matter of the temporary use of the grand central highway however that need not worry the people who are boosting the new route all they need do is make the road good and properly mark it it this is done it will get the bulk ot of the travel it Is now getting many cars each day and when tourists learn that there Is another and bet ter route than the arrowhead trail they will use it just now the arrowhead trail is getting the bulk of the travel but it is a route that has many disadvantages chiefly among which is the long stretch ot of desert where it is almost as hot at night as it Is in the heat ot of the day over the grand central highway the tourist la Is sure ot of cool pleasant nights no long trips between water ing places and no bad roads the eureka people who attended the meetings at salt lake on satur day were P J fennell C E H haish aish and walter jensen delta was represented by frank davis frank beckwith and hon steele ely s re presenta tives were fletcher and west who stated that they weri authorized by the people ot of ely to employ a man to spend his entire time at salt lake advertising th the new route and diverting travel through eureka and delta the road between eureka and ely is to be thoroughly marked and pro perly logged |
