Show American Bar Association Wisely Seeking Prevention Pre-vention of Labor Controversies I By MATTHEW WOLL, Vice President A. F. of L. The formula designed by a-eommittee of the American Bar association associa-tion to prevent strikes and labor controversies has my full commendation. The etTort of the association is to find a method of encouraging and maintaining peaceful industrial relations and collective agreement voluntarily vol-untarily entered into, without applying any power of compulsion. It believes this can be accomplished by giving validity to collective agreements and leaving the contracting parties at liberty to determine methods by which such obligations shall be enforced, without bringing these issues into the courts or burdening the courts with these industrial problems. The setting up of a national industrial council for fact-finding purposes, pur-poses, also proposed in the formula, should have a wholesome effect on both workers and employers, in that it will present to the public the true facts underlying any industrial situation. It is believed that ultimately public opinion and judgment are far more powerful and influential than any power of government. It is evident evi-dent that the bar has come to realize that the law, so far as industrial relations re-lations are concerned, must be modernized. . |
