Show letter to the Editor: Mother protests bond hearing some of the children? Did you do any research into the fact tut there were several children in counseling at the samtv tune because of Brett Bullock (not all parents wanted to become involved in the trial process because some children i were so traumatized or not emotionally stable to go through tnal- As an American citizen, I am extremely proud of our freedom and have triSd to instill in all my children a love for tht laws of the land. How then can not only we parents involved in this case, but other parents and children who are willing to come forth and testify in sexual abuse cases, who subject ourselves to extreme emotional trauma, threats on our lives and those or our children, gain any respect for the law when it does not consider the children who are victims. It's too late for us now the decision has been made by the Utah Supreme Court to grant Brett Bullock a bail heanngpend-ing heanngpend-ing his appeal. It may be years before his appeal is heard. My heart goes out to my child who will continue to go through years of extensive counseling to help him straighten out the tragic emotional trauma that Brett Bullock maliciously caused him when he was so young. However, it's not too late for the Utah Supreme Court to help othei young children who will follow in my child s footsteps who are willing to testify and put the child molesters behind bars. And there will be others until we face up to the threat this crime and its perpetrators pose for our children. If we cannot depend on the Utah Supreme Court to protect our most precious resource, the innocent victims, where are we to turn? I say thank you Judge Page! We need more concerned judges who use common sense, understand the facts involving sexual abuse, and are willing to stand up for the rights of our children- the backbone of America. ...... . I respectfully request my name not be published for the privacy priva-cy of my child. I would like to think that I speak for hundreds of other parents and children who have experienced the same trauma. An open letter to the editor: I'm extremely disappointed in the Utah Supreme Court judges. As I watched intently the Channel 4 KTVX rews broadcast broad-cast Wednesday evening, Sept. 30, regarding the granting of a bail hearing to child molester Brett Bullock, suddenly the events that have occurred during the last two years all came crashing back. I am angry, frustrated, bewildered and frightened. You see, I am a mother whose child was involved in not only devastating sexual abuse, but was also subject to physical violence, emotional emo-tional and mental cruelty, and threats on his own and his family's life if he disclosed any information about the abuse. Although it was extremely frightening and difficult for him, with the help of two wonderful and compassionate counselors, he was willing to be a witness against Brett Bullock. The jury tediously weighed the testimony and found Bullock guilty. My child was extremely relieved to have won a conviction, convic-tion, and he was comforted by the fact that Brett Bullock would be in prison for several years and would not be able to take any retaliatory measures against him for his part in the trial. Yes, I'm very disappointed in the Utah Supreme Court judges. Had any of you done your homework, it would have been extremely, difficult for you to grant bail pending an appeal. Judge Page was very careful and took a great amount of time to consider all the facts of the case before he set a final trial date. He sat through the trial, listened to the testimony and weighed the evidence. Brett Bullock was found guilty by a jury of his peers. Because of the testimony presented during the trial, Judge Page denied bail not once but twice, stating that Brett Bullock was a threat to society. Since he has been found guilty, I don't understand why bail should be granted at this time. The Supreme Court refuses to allow convicted murderers out on bail, even though their victims are dead. Why then allow a convicted child abuser and threat to society out on the streets when his young victims will be so traumatized? My young son asks "Why would they let him out of prison? I don't understand." under-stand." Are our young children not part of the society we seek to protect? And did the Utah Supreme Court also take into consideration the testimony of the expert witnesses stating the full extent of the abuse? Were you aware of the fact that he physically beat |
