Show Soldiers Scalped by the Reds. Deming, N. M., December 20. Saturday morning near the White House, northwest of Silver City, a company of eight United States cavalry troops, under Lieutenant Fountain, were ambushed by the hostiles with disastrous results. The following were killed in the fight which ensued: Surgeon Maddox, Privates Collins, Gibson, Hulton and McMillen. Lieut. Cabell and Corporal MoFarland were slightly wounded. The Indians numbered twenty-one. After the fight they headed west in this direction. This is the same band with which Fountain had a fight on the 9th instant. No Indians are reported killed. |
