Show ANOTHER CALL FOR CANNON. The Apostle Does Not Appear, and His Other 820,000 Bonds are Forfeit. District Attorney "Dickson requested the court this morning that George Q. Cannon be called to answer to indictments indict-ments found against him by the Grand Jury, for which $10,000 bonds had been furnished in each of the two cases. Bailiff Bail-iff Hurd's familiar voice rang out with the amusing call, "George Q. Cannon, George Q. Cannon, George Q. Cannon," and the silent court-room laughed back its answer, "Not present." The names of the bondsmen, Horace S. Eldredge and Francis Armstrong, were called in a similar manner, without a response, and on motion of Mr. Dickson the Court issued an order declaring the $20,000 bonds forfeited. for-feited. . Mr. Eldridge, who was seen at the Deseret National Bank a few minutes aferwards, stated to a Democrat reporter that he had nothing further to say on the subject of the bonds, only that he had never . during his lifetime allowed al-lowed any obligation to go unpaid, and he expected when his liability in this instance in-stance became due that it would be settled set-tled satisfactorily. .... Mr. Armstrong was not seen, but the public are already familiar with his ex- 1 pressed determination to test the matter in the courts. J |
