The petitions of Jesse W. Elliott, Peter ; Tomney and Bechtol & Sands, for liquor, licenses, were granted. The reports, of the city officers were received. The City Marshal reported the iouowmg expenses from February ytn through the month of March : Stationery and Office Expenses $ 535.97 Police.... : 209.80 Prison..; 142.20 Fire Account... 76.80 Quarantine Account 75.00 City Hall Park Acoount ' 6.00 Washington Square Acoount 1.75 Total... 1 , .$1,047.52 To the police fund there was appropriated appro-priated in February $700, and in March $500; total $1,200, which leaves on hand $150.50. On the public pub-lic grounds there was expended $610.52 ; deducting the amount appropriated ($500) there would be a balance to be provided of $110.52. The Watermaster also reported expenses ex-penses incurred by the Jordan & Salt Lake Canal Company to the amount of I $289.55, which, taken from the amount on hand, $648.11, would leave a balance on hand of $358.56. The Committee on Streets and Alleys reported the accounts of the Street Supervisor Super-visor as correct. . A favorable report was made on the petition for a new bridge across City Creek. The bill of Mrs. M. A. Burt of $208.95 for board' of prisoners was allowed, as also that of R. B. Williams of $55 for collecting col-lecting dog tax. The contingent fund of the Street Supervisor being exhausted an appropriation of $1,000 was ordered. The new poll tax ordinance was read the inira rime ana passed, as was also an ordinance or-dinance offered by Councilman Pyper repealing re-pealing the ordinance of 1877 protecting English sparrows. After" a discussion of the ways and means to suppress the mice which were girdling trees in the park, Council adjourned. |
