The cause of the explosion is yet unknown. Detective Stevenson, who was but a few rods off, extinguished ex-tinguished the fire under the boiler, which was but fifteen feet away from the derrick, immediately after the explosion. He thinks the gas ignited from that, while others say it caught from a spark thrown from a piece of iron which was being sledged. The owners own-ers were at the well . testing it, and the pressure was so strong that it forced off a gauge. A sheet of flame enveloped everything every-thing in the vioinity and burned the derrick and rigging.- .- , . |
