Show - Affairs on the Samoan Islands. San Fbancisoo, January 12. W. R. Branch, of this city, who has just returned . from Samoa, says nothing was known up to the time of his leaving of the seizure of the Samoan Islands by Germany. The German Imperial flag has been flying there for a long time, together with the flags of England and the United States. Representatives of the latter countries have always recognized King Malistoa as the lawful ruler of the l Islands, while Germany has been insisting on the claims of Tomassee, the King's cousin. The Consuls of the United States and England have counselled the natives on the Islands, who are partial to the missions established by the London missionary and French Catholio societies. |
