Show The House Committee on Coinage. Washington, January 20. The House Committee on Coinage to-day postponed until un-til the next meeting the consideration of all bills relating to the coining of the silver dollar. dol-lar. The committee will then begin the discussion dis-cussion of the different phases of the question, ques-tion, and dispose of them as rapidly as the importance of the question will allow. It was the general understanding of the committee that the bill introduced in-troduced by Chairman Bland to repeal that portion of the act of June 9, 1879, providing for exchange and redemption of subsidiary coins for lawful money, should be reported favorably. Final action on the bill, however, was not taken, as the committee thought it might lead to a premature open.-ing open.-ing up of the silver question in the House. All bills relating to the trade dollar were referred re-ferred to the sub-committee, consisting of ! Representatives Lanham, McCrary and James, after which an adjournment was taken. |
