Show TRESEDER AND ROYAL Bs SECOND Two Desirable "Uudergrounders" Lead the Deputies a Lively Chase. i At daybreak yesterday morning Cap- tain Greenman and Deputy Franks rode ! off towards the Bouth with an expression ! of earnestness on their faces that told of 1 important business ahead. They made j straight for the mouth of Little Cotton-I Cotton-I wood Canyon and drew rein at a farm j house where they had been given to i understand Mrs. Royal B. Young No. 2 was secreted. The lady who had been described as the party wanted, proved to be an entirely different person and the deputies were not long in ascer-I ascer-I taining this fact. They tarried I sufficiently long, however, to afford af-ford the neighbors an opportunity of discovering the officers' identity and the consequences were very disastrous to the more important feature of their errand. The residence of Louis Neally, Frank Treseder's brother-in-law, was across the country from Mrs. Young's suspected rendezvous only a few hundred yards, and it is here also that Treseder's mother I lives. The officers had received the most certain information that the partner of N. V. Jones in the notorious bribery case was lodged here, and in this instance there was no mistake as to identity. On their arrival at Neally's house the deputies depu-ties were told that Treseder was not there, and they were not given the most positive pointers, either, as to his whereabouts. where-abouts. While hunting around the premises the eagle eve of "Can" Green- man detected at a considerable distance away a number of boys riding at a lively rate towards the foothills, and the suspicion sus-picion fastened itself upon the officers that these parties were facilitating in some way Treseder's escape. The brush and undulations of the bench rendered it impossible for them to keep the fleeing horsemen in sight, but the officers were well mounted, themselves, and set out in hot pursuit of the succoring party. All day long they kept up their persistent search, and put forth every effort to prevent pre-vent the relief party from overtaking Treseder, as it was believed this worthy-was worthy-was on foot and alone when he first got away from his brother-in-law's house. It was discovered late in the day that he nad obtained a horse from some one of the farm houses, or from some other source, and towards evening the officers gave up the chase and returned to the city, arriving about 8 o'clock. Their trip had been one of the most trying in the experience of the deputies. The brush was tall and so thickly massed that it made the ride the most disagreeable disagree-able that can be imagined. It transpires that Treseder has been indicted for the part he took in the attempt at-tempt to waylay and kill Marshal Ireland, Ire-land, Attorney Dickson and Deputy Franks, and this accounts for the special attempt to bring him out of the underground. under-ground. His. (rial for attempted bribery with N. V. Jones will come up possible within two or three -weeks, and for his appearance on this count it will be remembered re-membered he is still under $5,000 bonds. Mrs. Rawlinga Young, the second wife of Royal B. Young, is also wanted on important business. Her husband's case was continued for the term, on account of the illness of Agnes McMurrin, the third wife, so that it will probably come up for trial early in the April term. |
