Show III GRAND ARMY NOTABLES The Keccption Tendered Them Last Evening The arrival in pur city of General Kountz CommanderinChief and General Gen-eral Austin Judge AdvocateGeneral of the Grand Army of the United States was the signal for the mustering all the members of that organization in our CityI I and they have outdone their usual efforts in paying the tribute of respect to their chief and his staff Last evening a magnificent reception and banquet was tendered to the distinguished distin-guished guests General Murray Governor Gov-ernor of the Territory welcomed the guests with one of his always happy speeches but on this occasion he like the balance of the old soldiers outdid himself and made an address that will long be remembered by all who heard it General Kountz gave a history of the society of the G A R which of course was very interesting to all General Kountz was followed by General Gen-eral D R u Austin in one of the most in teresting discourses we have ever heard on war matters A number of other gentlemen spoke I after which the large assemblage sat down to a sumptous repast prepared by H 0 Stearns and amid toasts witty sayings repartee and general enjoyment the hours turned into minutes and the company only got up from the board when admonished that the hour was very late This morning Generals Kountz and Austin accompanied by Captain Bynon visited the various places of interest in the city not forgetting in their tour t1 drop in at the DEMOCRAT office General Kountz leaves this evening over the D R G for Ogden where he will take the Central Pacific for San Francisco taking with him the respect of all who have had the honor and pleasure of meeting him while here The two gentlemen express great satisfaction and pleasure at their visit and return to all who have contributed to their enjoyment while here their sincere thanks |
