Show THE CITY SAGES I Another Water Petition The Usual Dry Proceedings Last evenings session of the City Council was very short and extremely dull Mayor Sharp presided and twelve members were present James Robertson of the Fourteenth Ward sent in a petition requesting permission per-mission to purchase a certain irregular strip of land originally intended for an alley Committee on public grounds Fiftyseven residents and property owners of those portions of the seventeenth Seven-teenth and NineteenthWard lying above the water ditch stated that certain residents resi-dents of the Eighteenth Twentieth and Twentyfirst Wards had petitioned for an increased water supply The petitioners called attention to the fact that they too were H dry benchers in every sense of I the term and begged the Council to attend at-tend to their wants while considering the prayers of other residents The matter was referred to the special committee to whom was referred the petition of other dry benchers The petition of Matilda Ferguson who desired to purchase a certain piece of property rom the city was referred to committee on public grounds A man named Benson requested that inasmuch as the city proposed to appropriate appro-priate a portion of his three lots by cutting cut-ting a new streethe be deeded a portion of the old street on the opposite side of his property Avhioh was to be closed up Committee on public grounds Louis E Bamberger was granted one years license as auctioneer The Salt Lake City Brewing company was granted a three months license to manufacture malt liquors Luce Duncan and C R Lippitt were granted renewals of liquor licenses The committee on police stated they had examined the statement of the city marshal of expenditures for the month of March and found it correct Mayor Sharp submitted a report and statement of the expenditures made from his contingent fund Among the many items were hiring band for cattle convention con-vention and defending police officers in the Third District Court A balance on hand of 3G3 was reported An appropriationof 1000 to the contingent con-tingent fund of the watermaster was made and the Council adjourned |
