Show EDISONS ELECTRIC LIGHT Suing Six Companies for Infringement Infringe-ment 15000000 Involved NEW YORK May SThe Edison Electric Elec-tric Light Company has brought suit in the United States Circuit Court of this district against six infringing companies supplying incandescent electric light and against nine users of the lights of the infringing in-fringing companies The companies sued were the United States Electric Lighting United Illuminating Consolidated Swan Incandescent Remington and Schuyler The users selected for a test were the Union Club Mortimer estate and others It is expected that other actions will be brought to sustain the validity of the Edison patents for the six companies charged with infringement have put out in various parts of the country a considerable consid-erable number of isolated plants for incandescent in-candescent electric lighting Mr Edison claims the original discovery the principle prin-ciple of subdivision of the electric current cur-rent by high resistance and he has twenty fundamental patents the validity of which if sustained will apparently leave the alleged infringing companies nothing to operate with excepting some small matters of mechanical detail which are said to be covered in advance by Edisons subsidiary patents The validity of the Edison patents has already been sustained sus-tained by the highest court in Germany which country has a more strict and rig idly protected patent system than any other William M Evarts senior advisory ad-visory counsel of the Edison company thinks that the American courts will arrive ar-rive at the same conclusions as the German Ger-man court and his opinion seems to be shared by other eminent jurists who have been consulted About 15000000 is involved in the litigation as it stands and there are ten or a dozen distinct and separate issues brought against each defendant de-fendant |
