Show What the Intention Was The Tribune this morning has the following fol-lowing We copy the following from the Sal Lake DEMOCRAT However much one may differ from Mr Pratt in his practices yet it must be acknowledged that he was no craven cur when brought facto fac-to face the law Does the DEMOCRAT mean by the foregoing fore-going that when Mr Arnold arraigned the same way frankly stated that henceforth hence-forth he would obey the law be was a craven cur If not what sense is 5 there in the foregoing And does the modal paper mean to advertise to this Inminiinifv flint in its imlirmont O1 prisoner at the bar to refuse to promise to live within the law in future is an actor act-or sign of heroism If the Tribune is not too aged or too wise to learn it can look over the files of the DEMOCRAT to find IOCIUT out our position on the case of Mr Arnold This reference to Mr Arnold by the Tribune looks like an attempt to twist language We would have preferred that Mr Pratt followed the example of Mr Arnold but we plainly say that Mr Pratt was no craven and although he had broken the laws of his country yet he did not wince when punishment came for that violation Ve do not favor a violation of the laws nor of the plain intent of language |
