Show A QUESTION OF VOTES It is the desire of every sincere nn selfish Gentile in Utah to have polled the greatest possible number of loyal votes against the Church and State or so called Peoples tickets throughout the Territory They will candidly admit that the method which will secure the greatest great-est number is the one which should be adopted They fully realize that it is under I the now law entirely a question of numerical voting strength between the two conflicting elements We would ask any loyal person who from disinterested motives is opposed to the tickets being nominated under the auspices of the two great National parties and upon un equitable basis of representation whether he knows of a single person who would support a ticket nominated under the old method who would not vote for the candidates selected se-lected under an amicable arrangement between the representatives of the Republican Re-publican and Democratic organizations We are confident that those who would not could be enumerated on the fingers and toes of anyone so refusing On the other hand we are more than confident we are positively cirtain that there are hundreds of votes which will be lost to the loyal cause which can be secured by the fusion method such as has been suggested sug-gested and advocated by THE DEMOCRAT It is certainly wisdom to pursue the policy most likely to win There is no one who can consistently object to an equal or proportionate representation of the two parties upon the tickets in opposition to the Church nominees Such objection could only arise from a desire for partisan advantage the exhibition of which would be certain tQ materially weaken the loyal cause at the polls THE DEMOCRAT has convincing proof that the fusion proposition is growing in favor as the question is being discussed and that the most discerning and clearheaded clear-headed men of both parties endorse it as the course most likely to result in success It is not only the best method for consolidating con-solidating the Liberal vote but for gaining gain-ing such accessions to it as can never bereached under the old line of action |
